"Glass is geological."
Artisan Made Gemstone (AMG's)
Made of glass these geological designs are created by an artist in the studio to have control of the esthetic nature of the material. These gems are created intentionally with all aspects of what we want in a stone to be. The possibilities are endless. "To me, manipulating glass hot is like working with liquid gemstones."
Created by Jeremy Sinkus, a mineral collector, miner and former gem and mineral dealer that put down his hammer and chisel to further his journey in glass art design. After over a decade of admiring the properties of the hard glass for its similar characteristics as crystals and gemstones he began working it like stone when cold. Borosilicate glass is a hard glass measuring about 7 on the Mohs hardness scale. Fracturing concoidal like quartz and takes a crisp high polish.
Environmentally and geologically friendly with a tiny percentage of earth tonnage moved per carat weight of material and made in a studio powered by hydroelectricity.
The incredible resemblance to tourmaline is in part that tourmaline is a borosilicate mineral. Sinkus believes that minerals and fossils are a beautiful design element that we can enjoy more in the home as well as admiring naturally. What better a material to sculpt geological inspirations with than glass.
